About the Reference websites:
At the time I developed PC Software in the Oak Island and Southport, N.C. area, a company named
'Dixie L.P. Gas' was extant. I am not sure if the above link is to
that same entity, owner, management personnel.
My Oak Island businesses were incorporated under an "umbrella" corporation called Island Online, Inc.
Client Management System for Dixie L.P. Gas Company
Business owners Wayland and Linda Vereen asked me to develop a pc-based system that:
- Maintained customer records, including gas usage and deliveries, accounts payable, and
accounts receivable.
- Maintained a 'degree days' database for the Southport area, based upon daily entry of the
previous day's high and low atmospheric temperatures.
- Provided a seasonally-adjusted projected weekly gas usage report for each customer, based
upon actual usage and estimated gas usage derived from the 'degree days' database.
- Provided a weekly gas delivery schedule and route, based upon projected gas usage.
- Provided semi-automatic backup and recovery procedures for customer, usage, degree-day,
and customer-financial databases.
At the time, I had an aversion to using Windows-based Microsoft development software. However,
I used Microsoft FoxPro development software to provision the above application. I was able to
provide all of the above functionality, to train office personnel in using the application,
and to feel successful in accomplishing all of this. Unfortunately, the owners eventually
elected to abandon use of the application.
