I do not consider myself a bibliophile, a bookworm, or a bibliomaniac
(ref: WikiPedia).
I simply love to read: it is a very enjoyable hobby, an important part of my life, and a
treasured source of both entertainment and information.
I have, at various points in my life, amassed book collections, libraries, of several hundred
titles and volumes. Historically, whenever my life situation changed and involved a long-distance
relocation of residence, I gave away most of my books, keeping only a dozen or so "cherished keepers"
(and, eventually, even most of those I gave away).
Two of my current favorite authors for "entertainment reading" are
Clive Cussler and
Michael Crichton. Two of my
"lifetime" favorite authors are Robert A. Heinlein and
Isaac Asimov.
My "exploratory reading" - my quest for information => knowledge => understanding =>
wisdom - began (approximately) at age ten, with hours and hours spent stretched out upon the
carpeted living room floor, with one or more volumes of the Compton's Encyclopedia and the Merriam-Webster
Collegiate Dictionary.
Most of the books listed on the index page reflect my current interests, concerns, and curiosities. I hope to
add historical depth to this list by eventual inclusion of titles read/enjoyed during earlier periods of my
life.
Perhaps the best book I have read is the
New American Bible.
My favorite "books" of this bible are
Job,
Proverbs,
Ecclesiastes,
Wisdom,
Sirach, and
The Gospels.
